Even strong men tremble at the end of a gun
Does a bad man wonder ‘bout the things that he’s done
Will they look back on tomorrow………. just the same as today
Or does it make them feel hollow
I’ve seen the preacher wrestle with the power in his hand
And the rich man humbled…… by what the poor man said
And while the monies pile up ……….…the glass is runnin’ out of sand
He’s still got time for your confession.
You make the demons tremble with the songs that you sing
Yea you tried to kill ‘em but they came back again
Dead presidents……… Decorate the face of your king
You keep your enemies close at hand and some fool on a chain
I compromise but I’m never in love
I keep my heart on a string … there’s just never enough
I love the ocean breeze but I can hardly swim
I’d brave a hurricane to be your anything
I see the little babies sleeping and I’m hoping for the same
But there’s a thought I’m keeping.. and it’s running round in my brain
Some people…………………... never get a break it seems….
And some are just plane lucky
Everybody’s got it easy except my friends and me
Everybody’s got a dream or at least that what you say
Some are living theirs’ Most of us are living day to day
You say the grass is greener well the Jones’ ain’t your friend
It seems the road that I’m travelin’ has come to an end
Though it was easy to follow….. I wouldn’t recommend
Yeah a change is gonna come………….. With a smile on my face
Yeah a change is gonna come….
I compromise but I’m never in love
I keep my heart on a string … there’s just never enough
I love the ocean breeze but I can hardly swim
I’d brave a hurricane to be your anything
When a killer cries for mercy Do you want to go insane
Or maybe shoot the lawyers cause they’re guilty just the same
You can always hear them coming…… Are you hearing what they say
They start out small but they keep coming just the same
